Christian2021

September 2021

Christian is an exchange student from Germany and he has recently joined the Brown lab for his undergraduate research project. He is exploring the use of arylboration as a strategy in natural product synthesis. Driven by his interest in synthetic organic chemistry, he will work on his Bachelor thesis in total synthesis, after he returns to Freie University Berlin in May 2022. In his free time he enjoys traveling to other cities in the USA to gain as many impressions as possible, as well as exploring the nature around Bloomington while mountain-biking or hiking.

Walker Smith

September 2020

Walker is from Knoxville, Tennessee, and is working towards his B.S. in Chemistry and his B.M. in Music Composition in the Jacobs School of Music. He is currently working with Renyu on developing methodologies for Lewis acid-catalyzed alkene-allenone [2 + 2] cycloadditions. He has been enamored with chemistry since eighth grade, when he began filming chemistry experiments in his garage and uploading them to his YouTube channel “TheChemistryShack,” which now has over 18,000 subscribers and over 1 million views. After graduation, Walker plans to pursue a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. Outside of lab, Walker enjoys cooking, listening to and writing music, and hiking and mountain biking in the beautiful state parks around Bloomington.

Maeve2021
