I am from Evansville, IN. I am majoring in Chemistry and I am graduating in Spring 2024. I am working with Jarett on the synthesis of 2.1.1 bicyclohexanes. In my free time, I enjoy going for runs and cooking new recipes.

Evan Piper

October 2022

Evan Piper is a biochemistry major from Indianapolis, Indiana. He is currently working under Yanyao Liu with [2+2] photocyloaddition reactions as the broader objective. Evan is graduating in 2025 and plans to attend medical school afterward. He enjoys playing volleyball and video games but has the most fun during conversations with his friends.

Walker Smith

September 2020

Walker is from Knoxville, Tennessee, and is working towards his B.S. in Chemistry and his B.M. in Music Composition in the Jacobs School of Music. He is currently working with Renyu on developing methodologies for Lewis acid-catalyzed alkene-allenone [2 + 2] cycloadditions. He has been enamored with chemistry since eighth grade, when he began filming chemistry experiments in his garage and uploading them to his YouTube channel “TheChemistryShack,” which now has over 18,000 subscribers and over 1 million views. After graduation, Walker plans to pursue a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. Outside of lab, Walker enjoys cooking, listening to and writing music, and hiking and mountain biking in the beautiful state parks around Bloomington.


Maeve2021

Maeve is an undergraduate from Avon, Indiana, pursuing her B.S. in Biochemistry at IU. She plans to graduate in the spring of 2023. She is currently working with Stanna on the arylboration of boron-substituted dienes using Cu/Pd catalysis. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, painting, and hammocking.
